Why Austin?

If you haven’t noticed, Rooted is made up of four Hoosiers. Our roots were in Indiana for many years, but now we’re digging in here. So how did we end up in Austin? That’s a good question. Another one that we keep asking ourselves is, “Why didn’t we come to Austin sooner?”

It’s simple, really. It’s all about the people. If it’s anything, Austin is a people place. There are weird people, music people, tech people, business people, art people, student people, teacher people, politician people, food people and a whole lot of people people. At Rooted, we’re all about people.

As storytellers, we love to dig our hands deep into a good adventure. In the beginning we were satisfied with immersing ourselves in the essence of stories. We would listen to people and maybe unearth a few details with some questions and inquiries. Soon just hearing the story wasn’t enough; we wanted more. We started spreading the stories to more people, at first by a simple retelling and later by redistributing it it in various media. Through this process we found out that digital storytelling was the best format for us. Then, we transcended into a new kind of storytelling. We started to cultivate direct connections between the original storytellers and people who were interested what they had to say. We slowly became the agents of propagation we are today.

Obviously, for all that to work we need people. The more interesting people we connect with, the better our storytelling. That’s the long version. What’s the short one?

Austinites are our kind of people.
