Photo(s) of the week 11/19/10

For the first time ever, we have two winners in the around Austin photo contest. Congratulations to Peter Gaunt and Cassandra Adamson for winning. Pete’s shot of Austin from a distance caught your eyes, and Cassandra’s image that captured fall in all it’s glory did as well. We decided to put Pete’s photo first because his was the first one to get the most votes, then Cassandra caught up with him. Thanks for voting!

First, Pete’s shot:

Here’s what Pete had to say about it:

When I’m driving around Austin either looking for things to photograph or not, sometimes things just fall into place. That’s what happened here. I was out exploring, and while driving along the highway I noticed a pull-off spot on the side of the road. It is a wonderful view of the city, and this home sits perfectly along the edge of this ravine. The clouds were looking nice in the overcast sky, and everything just worked.

Now, Cassandra’s winning image:

Here’s Cassandra’s take on the shot:

This scene initially caught my eye because of the water reflections of the brightly colored houses across the creek. The symmetry was compelling. After walking along the trail in the nature preserve a little ways, I chose to photograph the orange house because it and its reflection nearly matched the leaves partially obstructing my view. This created another pattern of sorts, which pulled together what I considered to be a very pleasing image

That’s all for this week, thanks for voting. We’re stil hard at work on geting everything ready for the main site launch on Dec. 1. Until then, have a great weekend Austin!
