Around Austin photo contest 11/8/10
Monday, November 8th, 2010
It’s that time again, and for this week’s contest we have all kinds of fun photos for you. Rooted photographers Cassandra Adamson and Peter Gaunt will be strutting their stuff like normal, and we also have submitted photos from Nicole Fraga and Willy Rader. You have a lot to choose from this week Austin, so enjoy. Will this be the first time a Rooted photographer is bested in the contest? That’s up to you. Thanks for voting!
We’ll start off with Cassandra’s shots:
Photo 1: One of Austin’s many graffitied murals decorates the view of Austin seen from across the river.
Photo 2: A Viking horse appears to grin at passersby in the Viking reenactment section of the Austin Celtic Festival Saturday.
Photo 3: An instructor from Hill Country Highland Dancers teaches steps of a traditional Scottish dance to a group of children and parents on Kelkie stage at the Celtic festival.
Photo 4: A young Viking reenactor stands among tools from that era at the Celtic festival.
Now, on to Pete’s images:
Photo 5: People sit on top of a hill near Auditorium Shores park and can be seen from the Gypsy Picnic Trailer Food Festival.
Photo 6: The Serendipity finds itself without water in a boat junk yard on the east side of Austin near the Walter E. Long Lake.
Photo 7: A stark contrast between the bright red of this worn out boat and the overcast clouds make for a nice juxtaposition.
Photo 8: The homes in the Agave neighborhood show the modern side of Austin.
Photo 9: Men dance in exquisite clothes during the Men’s Fancy Dance competition during the 19th Annual American Indian Heritage Festival.
Now, onto our submitted photos. Our first few shots come from photographer Nicole Fraga:
Photo 10: A Cirque Dreams performer balances and spins geometric shapes for the finale at the Gypsy Picnic. Cirque Dreams will be performing at The Long Center for Performing Arts from November 23 to 28.
Photo 11: An audience member stands on the head of a performer at the Gypsy Picnic while he lays on a bed of nails.
Photo 12: Newfound friends enjoy live music together at Austin’s first Gypsy Picnic.
Photo 13: Haley McMillian celebrates her first birthday by enjoying some chocolate cake with family and close friends.
Thanks for sending in the awesome shots Nicole! Next up is Willy Rader, who brings us a couple of shots of ZZ Top in Austin:
Photo 14: Those beards will always be awesome, won’t they?
Photo 15: ZZ Top from another angle. Thanks again to Willy for sending in these photos, don’t forget to check out his site if you like these!
That’s all for this week. Our thanks go out to Nicole Fraga and Willy Rader for sending in their awesome photos. Don’t forget, you can be a part of the Around Austin photo contest too if you send us some images at photo@rootedaustin.com this week.
