Around Austin photo contest 11/1/10

Happy November! This week we have a few spooky images and a few fun images. Photographers Cassandra Adamson and Peter Gaunt were even on the same wavelength for a couple of their shots (you’ll see what we mean). Thanks for voting in this week’s contest, and don’t forget to send your photos from around Austin to photo@rootedaustin.com if you want to be included in next week’s photo contest.

First, Cassandra’s shots:

Photo 1: A grave marker is cast in a ghostly light by a street lamp Halloween night.

Photo 2: The nobility of a campus monument is temporarily rendered goofy during the Halloween weekend.

Photo 3: The Texas Longhorns logo is found everywhere on the buses and bus stops next to UT’s campus.

Photo 4: Every evening the birds on Guadalupe join in a racous chorus and line the tree branches, buildings and telephone wires before they settle for the night.

Now, on to Pete’s shots:

Photo 5: A large windmill sits along a country road south of Austin near I-35.

Photo 6: The hands of Chuck Middleton pluck his banjo during a bluegrass jam session at Waterloo Icehouse. Musicians from all over Austin come out the second and fourth Monday of every month for the jam.

Photo 7: Birds take a rest from flying and sit along a powerline and street lamp on East Cesar Chavez Street.

Photo 8: Downtown Austin was full of characters dressed up for Halloween festivities during the last weekend in October. Sixth Street was particularly busy with the street closed off to drivers until after the bars closed.

Photo 9: Pumpkins and goards of many shapes, colors and textures littered the ground of the United Methodist Church pumpkin patch just south of Austin in Buda. These specials fruits were raised on a Navajo Reservation in northern New Mexico.

Photo 10: Part of a black and white poster with a red sticker makes for stark contrast when passing by this old gas station in east Austin.

That’s all for this week, thanks for voting! Send us your photos from around Austin at photo@rootedaustin.com for next week’s contest.
