A look at the visible homeless of Austin

In our series on homelessness, we’ve brought you the stories of people whose situations were hard to see. Now, we explore a more visible side of the issue. Shea Grant has been surviving without a home for the past ten years after leaving foster care at 17. Rooted looks into Shea’s life of singing and playing guitar on Guadelupe Street for money to live.

Come back next week for our final installment on homelessness in Austin.

Cassandra Adamson reported, photographed and produced this story.

Thank you for letting Shea tell his story! In Austin, there are more than 550 young people who pass through or stay here who each have individual, unique, and wonderful stories.

That segment was very moving. The combination of still shots and video made me feel I had met him, too...and read between the lines.
